Modifier Groups
Create option groups that let customers customize their orders.
Modifier groups define the customization options customers see when ordering an item — like choosing a size, selecting toppings, or picking a side.
Creating a Modifier Group
- In the menu editor, open the Modifier Groups tab in the sidebar
- Click Add Modifier Group
- Choose a type, enter a name, and configure selection rules
- Add modifiers (the individual options)
- Click Create Modifier Group
Types
- Regular — Standard modifier group for most use cases (e.g. size, extras, sides)
- Pizza — Specialized behavior for pizza-style modifiers with half-price support
- Multi — Multi-select group with flexible selection rules
Details
- Name — The group name shown to customers (e.g. "Choose Your Size", "Add Toppings")
- Internal Name — Optional label only visible to staff, useful for distinguishing similar groups
Conditions
Required vs Optional
Toggle Required to force customers to make a selection. When required, set a minimum number of selections.
Selection Limits
- Min selections — The minimum number of options a customer must choose (only applies when required)
- Max selections — The maximum allowed. Enable No maximum limit to let customers select as many as they want
Free Pricing Rule
Enable this to offer some selections at no extra charge:
- Free up to — The first N selections are free, additional ones are charged at their regular price
- Free after — Selections beyond N are free (e.g. the first 3 toppings cost extra, but anything after that is complimentary)
Modifiers
Modifiers are the individual options within the group. Each modifier has:
- Name — What the customer sees (e.g. "Small", "Extra Cheese")
- Description — Optional detail text
- Price — The additional charge for selecting this option
- Half Price — Used with pizza-type groups for half-topping pricing
- Image — Optional image for the modifier (drag and drop onto the modifier row)
- Default — Whether this option is pre-selected
You can reorder modifiers by dragging them within the list.
Availability and 86
Individual modifiers have the same two controls as menu items:
- Availability — Toggle a modifier off to hide it from customers entirely. Use this for options that shouldn't be offered right now.
- 86 — Mark a modifier as sold out from the 86 page. Expand an item to see its modifier tree, then use the 86 / Restore control on any modifier. The modifier stays visible but customers can't select it.
Modifier groups are shared across items within a menu. Changes to a modifier group affect all items that use it.
